How I became a poet
When I was 45 years old, I read a book of haiku by children’s poet Jack Prelutsky called If Not for the Cat. It featured 17 clever animal-focused haiku. I liked it so much, I wrote my own book of haiku and called it Guyku: A Year of Haiku for Boys. (It’s for girls too. I just wanted to reach poetry-reluctant boys.)
Since then I’ve written several other poetry books, and I’ve collected more than 100 books in my personal poetry collection.
Through my books, I hope to share my enthusiasm for playing with words. I want them to discover, like I did, how much enjoyment they can get from reading poems that speak to them.
