I’ve always liked to
make stuff
As a boy I loved to draw. I also spent a lot of time building model airplanes and rockets. Once, I even made a flute out of a stick I found—and it played!
In college I studied art, which came in handy when I wrote Bob Raczka’s Art Adventures. I also studied advertising, a creative field I worked in for 39 years.
Over the years I became a big poetry fan. I’ve always loved playing with words, so it wasn't long before I started writing my own poems. If I could share one message with today's kids, it would be this: Make stuff!
Build forts. Write comic books. Draw imaginary creatures. Make up games. Design your own Halloween costume. Try your own recipe.
Dare to be creative.
